Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes


Ingredients

  • 4 Russet potatoes, sliced into 1/4" slices
  • 1 Onion, sliced into rings
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 3 tbsp All-Purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 2 cup Milk
  • 1-1/2 cup Shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 deg. F. Spray large filling container.
  2. Layer 1/2 of the potatoes into bottom of the prepared casserole dish.
  3. Top with the onion slices and add the remaining potatoes. Season with salt and pepper taste.
  4. In medium-size saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  5. Mix in flour and salt and stir constantly with a whisk for one minute.
  6. Stir in milk. Cook until mixture has thickened.
  7. Stir in cheese all at once and continue stirring until melted, about 30 to 60 seconds.
  8. Pour cheese over the potatoes and cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake 1-1/2 hours in oven.
  10. To double in 9 X 13 pan, use 1 1/2 of all the other ingredients. You will probably have too much of the cheese mixture.
