Sugar Cookies (Betsy)

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp (slightly rounded) baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk (1 cup milk/1 T vinegar)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Cream together sugar, Crisco, and margarine.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to above mixture.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto parchment paper.
  7. Bake at 375 for 8- 10 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle with sugar or icing.
