Red Velvet Cake


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 2 fl oz red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk and 1 T white vinegar to make 1 cup)
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp vinegar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs.
  3. Make paste from cocoa and food color. Add to butter mixture.
  4. Mix vanilla, salt, and milk. Add to above mixture alternately with flour.
  5. Mix baking soda and vinegar. Fold mixture into batter.
  6. Bake cake for 35- 40 minutes or cupcakes for 15- 20 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cupcakes.
